When we launched Larkling's free co-parenting expense calculator, a directory contact flagged something we should have caught sooner: it only showed US dollars. For a UK-built app with British and European co-parents at its core, that wasn't good enough.
Today, that's fixed.
Multi-currency — built for where you actually live
The calculator now supports five currencies, with £ GBP as the default:
Switch currencies with one click. Every total reformats instantly — correct symbols, correct decimal separators, correct grouping. And your choice is remembered: come back tomorrow and the calculator still shows pounds (or euros, or dollars — whatever you picked).
Why this matters for co-parents
Co-parenting expenses don't stop at borders. A parent in London might be splitting school uniform costs with a co-parent in Dublin. A family in Manchester might have one parent recently moved from Toronto. Blended and international families — which Larkling was built to serve — need tools that reflect their actual lives.
Defaulting to pounds isn't just about the UK user base. It's a signal: this app was built here, for the legal and financial reality of co-parenting in Britain. CAFCASS reports, MIAM mediation, parenting plans — Larkling's content library is UK-first, and the tools now match.
How the calculator works
It's free, no signup, and lives at larklingapp.com/coparenting-expense-calculator:
- Add expenses — childcare, school, medical, activities
- Set who paid — Parent A or Parent B
- Choose your split — 50/50, 60/40, or custom
- See who owes whom — one clear settlement line
- Copy the summary — paste it into an email, message, or court document
Everything auto-calculates as you type. No submit button. No page reload. Just numbers that update live — in your currency.
What's next: the in-app tracker
The public calculator is step one. We're bringing the same multi-currency support to the in-app expense tracker — so logged-in co-parents can set their family's currency once and see every split, every request, and every total in pounds (or euros, or dollars) everywhere inside Larkling.
